Took a brief trip to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, a short drive outside
Las Vegas during my business trip earlier this year.
The scenic drive was closed due to the weather. So spent a few hours driving around the Conservation Area while waiting for a friend to fly-in.
My previous trip to Red Rock was in 2008 late fall and it was great to witness the mountains in the winter. Surprising how quickly the weather changes once you leave Vegas towards Red Rock.
All pictures were shot with Gtizo 3541LS and Manfrotto 488RC2 Ball head, with:
(a) EOS 1D Mark III + EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM,
(b) EOS 1D Mark III + EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM, &
(a) EOS 40D + EF-S 10-22mm F3.5~4.5 USM.
Shot in aRGB and converted to Gray-scale using Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Nik Silver Efex Pro, as the dynamic ranges are very wide and strong contrasts between the skies and red rocks were highly distracting.
Also made a little side trip to Zion National Park with a friend.
